My mother is American and my father is Mexican. I was born in México in 1968 and came with my family to the United States in 1970. I was raised in Iowa along with my younger sister. I currently live in Iowa.
My work is rooted in my Mexican and American heritage. When I was growing up, my father took my family to visit many archeological sites in México and to see different regions of the country. I draw on the colors and shapes of Mexican pre-Columbian motifs that I saw while traveling and combine them with my experiences of living in the Midwestern United States.
